Grands Espaces was founded in 1998 by scientist and explorer Christian Kempf, the author of over 25 books on the polar regions. A market leader in the field, the company charters small-capacity vessels (accommodating 12, 36, 48, or 98 passengers) with a commitment to respecting local communities and the environment—principles essential to responsible, sustainable tourism. While its clientele is primarily French-speaking, the company is increasingly welcoming international groups, particularly aboard its two vessels, the Grand Explorer and the Grand Nanook. Grands Espaces is set to acquire a fleet of polar vessels designed for 36 passengers.
